Summer in Châtel
Come summer, Châtel trades its ski slopes for wildflower-strewn trails and one of the most celebrated bike parks in the Alps. The village’s bike park at Pré la Joux and Plaine Dranse draws downhill and freeride riders from across Europe, with routes linking into the wider 600km Portes du Soleil trail network, while gentler valley paths and e-bike routes suit families and casual explorers alike. Lac de Vonnes, just a short walk from Lodge Cresson, offers swimming, fishing and pedal boats against a backdrop of pine forest and mountain peaks, and the Forme d’O aquatic centre in the village provides an indoor pool, spa and wellness facilities for cooler days. Thrill-seekers can take to the skies on the Fantasticable zip line or ride the Pré la Joux bobsleigh, while the village calendar fills with markets, concerts and the traditional Belle Dimanche mountain pastures festival at the end of August. With warm days, cooler evenings and far fewer crowds than the ski season, summer is a wonderful time to experience Châtel at its most authentic.
